RPTSA has a range of opportunities to support teachers wishing to develop their leadership skills, from subject leaders through to aspiring Headteachers.
Opportunities for Teachers
Trainee
|
ITT through School Direct programmes
- PGCE with Masters degree credits training programmes in partnership with St Mary’s University
- High quality training opportunities in a range of good and outstanding schools throughout Richmond
- Training delivered by SLEs, LLEs and NLEs

NQT
|
Focus on maintaining QTS, improving teaching and retaining an enthusiasm for teaching as a profession
- Access comprehensive NQT programme through AfC
- Opportunities to observe and work with other teachers and subject leaders

Early Leadership
|
Focus on becoming consistently good or better teacher and leading a curriculum area
- Join a research and development group
- Take part in a Teach Meet Session
- Visit leading teachers identified as outstanding
- Attend 3 day subject leadership training programme

Middle Leadership Teacher
|
Focus on developing the ability to support others and other leadership skills
- Work towards taking an active lead in a research and development group
- Shadow a colleague/middle leader/SLT
- Attend middle leadership training-through the National Professional Qualification for Middle Leadership-NPQML
- Coach/mentor within after training
- Apply to join database of expertise and support other schools

Senior Leader

Focus on developing the ability to lead on key aspects of school improvement
- Attend Aspirant Leader Training
- Apply to become an SLE
- Lead an action research group
- Volunteer for leadership secondments
- Become a middle leader coach

Deputy Head
Assistant Head

Focus on supporting whole school self-evaluation and improvement planning
- Become a coach for senior leaders
- Volunteer for Acting Head secondments
- Deputise for HT at SAPH meetings
- Become trained in the use of self-evaluation triads
- Access NPQH/M.Ed courses

Headteacher
|
Focus on providing strategic leadership by shaping school improvement around a clear vision
- Train and act as a Mentor/Coach for new/acting and applicant Headteachers
- Attend Richmond Heads Conferences and other networks & briefings
- Take part in self-evaluation groups/triads
- Contribute to School to School Support
